Weapon goes off during mental health crisis in north Nanaimo home, 1 taken to hospital

NANAIMO – A mental health crisis inside a north Nanaimo home escalated to the point of a weapon going off and hitting someone inside.

Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien confirmed to NanaimoNewsNOW a weapon went off in a home on Groveland Dr. around 6 a.m. on Saturday, April 3 and hit someone inside the home.

He said the person who fired the weapon was in the midst of a mental health crisis at the time. The person left the home after firing the weapon.

They were quickly apprehended by police without incident and taken into custody.
