COVID-19 outbreak expands at Nanaimo’s Eden Gardens care home

NANAIMO — Island Health has confirmed an additional COVID-19 case connected to a local care home.

One senior resident of the Eden Gardens facility on Northfield Rd. tested positive on Sunday, Feb. 14.

The person is a confirmed contact of the original case announced Sunday.

Health authorities and staff at Eden Gardens have expanded the scope of the outbreak to the entire facility with 127 residents and 246 staff affected.

In response to the additional case, residents are being isolated in their rooms with group dining and other activities on pause.

Staff movement through Eden Gardens is also being limited.

Eden Gardens was declared an outbreak on Sunday, along with Wexford Creek in Chase River.

One staff member at each site had tested positive.
