COVID-19 takes its toll with 16 new fatalities across B.C.
NANAIMO — B.C. has once again hit the record for most lives lost in one day due to COVID-19.
The BC CDC confirmed an additional 16 fatalities on Tuesday, Dec. 8, tied for the most fatal day so far in B.C. during the pandemic.
Data throughout the pandemic shows fatalities lag behind new confirmed cases by roughly one month. This means the record high number of cases seen in mid and late November aren’t yet reflected in the number of lives lost each day and higher number of deaths are likely on the horizon.
The news wasn’t all bad from the province which confirmed 566 new cases on Tuesday, amounting to the lowest number of new COVID diagnosis across B.C. since Nov. 17.
