Trudeau congratulates Joe Biden on victory in U.S. presidential election
OTTAWA — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau eagerly ushered in a new era of co-operation with U.S. President-elect Joe Biden on Saturday, as Alberta’s Jason Kenney made a thinly-veiled request to preserve the Keystone XL pipeline.
Trudeau’s statement of congratulations to Biden and running mate Kamala Harris came about 45 minutes after the Democrats won Pennsylvania late Saturday morning, pushing the Democrat ticket over the 270-vote finish line in the U.S. electoral college to unseat President Donald Trump.
“I look forward to working with President-elect Biden, Vice President-elect Harris, their administration, and the United States Congress as we tackle the world’s greatest challenges together,” said Trudeau.
Trudeau lauded the “extraordinary relationship — one that is unique on the world stage” between the two countries.
