Violent, repeat offender accused of stabbing man in Parksville

PARKSVILLE — A man well known to police was arrested after allegedly stabbing a man in the woods in the north end of Parksville.

Hudson David Klassen, 28, was arrested without incident on Aug. 10 after a man came to the Oceanside RCMP detachment for medical attention, claiming he had been stabbed in the shoulder.

Through information provided by the victim, officers arrested Klassen in a wooded area near Wembley Mall. The area is a popular spot where homeless people camp and is where the alleged stabbing occurred.

Klassen was held overnight and appeared in court on Tuesday, Aug. 11 where he is facing charges related to the stabbing, as well as breaching previous probation conditions.

He remains in custody until a further court appearance later in August.

Klassen has a long history with law enforcement, including being arrested in January 2019 for numerous outstanding warrants, including assault.

He was released in September 2019 with a one year probation and had planned to enter a drug treatment facility in Surrey.

“I’m going to do my best to get sober and turn my life around,” Klassen told court from the prisoner’s box in September.

His lengthy criminal record dates back to 2012 when he was convicted of a violent home invasion in Nanaimo. Klassen, who was 20-years-old at the time, assaulted a woman at her Uplands Dr. apartment.
