Nanaimo River Rd. proving to be a summer hotspot for thieves

NANAIMO — Those heading into the backcountry to camp may want to consider being dropped off rather than leaving their vehicle along Nanaimo River Rd.

The advice comes after Nanaimo RCMP responded to over a dozen break-ins in the past month along the road, including three in one night.

In most cases the cars were parked overnight while their owners headed into the backcountry to camp.

Police said the vehicles are locked, however thieves smashed multiple windows to gain access.
