NANAIMO — WorkSafe BC is satisfied the company responsible for dragging utility lines and snapping power poles in south Nanaimo won’t make the same mistake for a third time.

A WorkSafe BC report focused on a June 26 incident of a dump truck’s raised bucket dragging utility lines northbound on Old Victoria Rd. near Seventh St.

A dump truck bucket left up produced similar results on May 25, which saw a dump truck roll over as opposed to remaining upright in the second incident.

Nobody was hurt on either occasion, which caused power and traffic disruptions in the vicinity.

The WorkSafe BC inspection report obtained by NanaimoNewsNOW said the company involved, Milestone Equipment Contracting, has taken “corrective actions by having an indicator light installed in all trucks which illuminates when the bucket is risen.”

The report said all of the company’s truck drivers have been re-trained with the new indicator light feature and heard from BC Hydro personnel to prevent similar incidents from occurring.

“This employer has appeared to conducted a compliant investigation and has taken corrective measures which are practicable and should ensure this situation does not repeat itself,” the report concluded.

Milestone Equipment Contracting didn’t respond to requests for comment following the June 26 incident.

Several local residents voiced frustration on-scene following the second mishap.
