NANAIMO — The remains of a Nanaimo-born pilot who tragically passed away in a helicopter crash are returning to Vancouver Island.

A military procession of Cpt. Kevin Hagen’s family and dignitaries will carry Hagen’s remains from the Victoria International Airport to the McCall Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, June 27.

Hagen and five others lost their lives when their Cyclone helicopter crashed off the coast of Greece in April.

A preliminary report released by the Royal Canadian Air Force says the crash occurred during the final maneuvering for a landing. The Cyclone flew past HMCS Fredericton and turned to set up for landing, but the helicopter did not respond as anticipated and crashed.
