Nanaimo RCMP arrest one suspect following Saturday night gas station fire

NANAIMO — Local RCMP have arrested one of the two suspects alleged to have started a fire at a Nanaimo convenience store on Saturday, May 2.

The Circle K convenience store at the corner of Departure Bay Rd. and Norwell Dr. was set on fire after 9:00 p.m. on Saturday night after two youths attempted to shoplift from the store before firing a single tube flare at the clerk.

The clerk was not injured however significant damage was done to the store in the resulting fire.

Police said in a release one of the 16 year old suspects were arrested without incident at a home on Sunday, May 3.
