Obituary
Following a brief battle with cancer, Linda passed away in Victoria. Linda leaves behind siblings, Gloria (Stan) Wilcox, Joan (Tom) Posener, Ross McLean and David (Donna) Nichols; nieces, nephews, extended family and many wonderful friends who are all saddened with the loss. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Frederick Kummer in 2009; her brother, Peter (Lil); and her parents, Peter & Edith McLean.
Linda was born near Edmonton, Alberta and graduated from Queen Elizabeth Composite High School before attending Royal Alexandra School of Nursing. She married Fred in 1967 and together they relocated wherever the RCMP (and later CSIS) needed him. Grimshaw, Edmonton, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver were all beneficiaries of her nursing skills and kindness.
Linda enjoyed their frequent vacations to Hawaii (and elsewhere). An injury ended her nursing career. She worked for CSIS prior to their retirement move to Halfmoon Bay in 1992, where she continued working for a few more years. During this time she discovered quilting (Sunshine Coast Quilters Guild). Her second retirement move brought her closer to family as she settled in Parksville (2014) until her death.
Parksville afforded her social nature many opportunities. She tackled lawn bowling and enjoyed her time with the Parksville Lawn Bowling Club. Her love of quilting grew (Parksville Quilthouse Guild). Linda volunteered to support local clubs. She enjoyed Cribbage, Mahjong, reading, the home shopping channel, casinos and travel. All time spent with friends and family was cherished. This beautiful lady loved much and was much loved in return.
Linda’s family would like to thank the Nurses and Staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital Palliative Care. A special mention to Susan, who was endearingly patient with us, as we tried to connect (facetime, group chats, speaker phone) and be there for Linda in absentia. The Covid Crisis making this time all the more difficult for everyone.
We look forward to the world resetting itself soon and hope to be able to Celebrate Linda’s life with friends and family in the not terribly distant future (August perhaps). In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
