NANAIMO — Local mounties may have set a new record for fastest recovery of a stolen motor vehicle on overnight on Saturday, April 11.

A vehicle was reported stolen at 12:57 a.m. on Saturday from a residence on Norsea Rd. The owners said they heard their vehicle start up and be driven away.

Following the report, Nanaimo RCMP officers began a patrol of the surrounding area.

Four minutes later, at 1:01 a.m. officers spotted the described vehicle travelling fast down Townsite Rd.

Officers pulled the vehicle over and two men, aged 24 and 25 were arrested.

“The owners of truck were contacted by officers and needless to say, they were ecstatic to hear that their vehicle had been recovered and without any damage to it,” Cst. Gary O’Brien said in a release.

The two suspects were released by police later Saturday morning and face charges of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property.

They are due to appear in court in July.
