Clippers sweep Bulldogs with 2-1 win in Game 4

PORT ALBERNI – The Clippers swept their series with Alberni Valley with a tight 2-1 victory at Weyerhauser Arena.

The game was scoreless into the second period with both goalies Luke Pearson and the Clippers Jordan Naylor playing well.

A point shot from Mattias Dal Monte made it 1-0 Bulldogs six minutes into the second but Ethan Scardina’s rebound goal with just over thirty seconds to play in the middle frame evened the score.

Tim Washe buried his second goal of the series four minutes into the third to give Nanaimo the victory.

The line of Washe, Scardina and Kyler Kovich combined for five points in the win.

Nanaimo outshot Alberni 38-35 while going 0/2 on the power play and 3/3 on the penalty kill.

The Clippers won ten of the 12 regular season and playoff games they played against the Bulldogs in 2019-20.

Overall Nanaimo has won nine straight contests dating back to Feb. 14.

Now the Clippers will await the winner of the Cowichan Valley and Powell River series to see who they’ll meet in the Island Division final starting on Mar. 13.

Nanaimo is into the second round of the BCHL playoffs for the first time since 2016 and the series win over Alberni Valley leaves the Clippers with a 5-2 record all time against the Bulldogs in post season play.
