Removal of temporary bridge to result in another Hwy. 4 closure near Tofino, Ucluelet
PORT ALBERNI β Travellers on Hwy. 4 between Tofino/Ucluelet and Port Alberni must deal with another closure this weekend.
Construction crews plan to shut down the road beginning 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 for 24 hours. The closure is to repair the slope and remove a temporary bridge that was installed following a rock slide that destabilized the road in late January.
Residents and tourists on western Vancouver Island had supply lines cut for almost a week as a result of the slide with many grocery stores running out of fresh food while gas stations began to ration fuel.
βThe bridge removal and permanent slope repair at this location are necessary for blasting to continue, allowing the project to stay on schedule for completion by the end of summer 2020,β the Ministry of Transportation said in a release.
