DUNCAN – The goalies stole the show in an 80 shot performance put on by the Clippers and Capitals.

Jordan Naylor made 36 saves in the loss and Zach Borgiel stopped 41 shots for the Capitals in their 2-1 win.

Kyler Kovich got the Clippers off to a fast start pouncing on a loose puck in the crease midway through the first period.

Cowichan got their goals in the second period with tallies by Tanner Sidaway and Olivier Gauthier.

The game had a playoff feel with two third period fights between Nanaimo’s Jack O’Brien and the Capitals Dan McIntyre and then the Clippers Brandon Dent took on Matthew Crasa.

In what was a war of attrition Nanaimo finished the third period playing three lines and two defensive pairs.

After the Jan. 11 game the Clippers sat with a 1-4 record against the Capitals, and trail Cowichan by three points for first in the Island Division.

Nanaimo is home to Wenatchee on Jan. 12 and have a rematch in Duncan again on Jan. 25.
