It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Hulda Sauder who went to be with her Lord on Sunday December 8, 2019. She is survived by her son, Jerry Sauder of Parksville, daughter Doris Sauder of Red Deer, Alberta and sister Frieda Claussen of Edmonton, Alberta. Her husband Senon predeceased her in 2013 and she was predeceased by her parents Daniel and Wanda Prochnau as well as sister Martha Janz of Calgary and brother Gustav Prochnau of Edmonton.
Hulda came to Canada from Poland as a refugee after the Second World War thanks to sponsorship through the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) and the Red Cross. She started a new life and settled in Coaldale Alberta. She attended High School and Bible College there and moved to Calgary where she enrolled at the University of Calgary and became a teacher. Hulda was a schoolteacher in Calgary for over 20 years and in 1994, retired and moved to Parksville. She started the Sandpiper singing group, which entertained seniors in seniors’ lodges in Oceanside. She enjoyed travelling, gardening, and singing as well as serving in her church. She also enjoyed leading choirs, tutoring and served in the Parkville After 5 Club.
Hulda was a loving and devoted mother and wife. She was a committed Christian and stood as an example of love and service to others. We will miss her sweet personality, giving spirit and dedication to her family and friends.
