NANAIMO — Local RCMP are investigating a brazen mid-afternoon bank robbery.

At approximately 2:10 p.m., a lone white male entered the Terminal Park branch of the Bank of Montreal and demanded cash.

Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW the tellers cooperated.

“He did not produce a weapon and left with an undisclosed amount of cash,” O’Brien said. “He discarded much of the clothing he was wearing during the robbery such as a santa hat, glasses and a jacket.”

The man left the branch and ran northbound but was not located by police.

“We did send a dog out, but there’s way too much foot and vehicle traffic,” O’Brien said. “We have a lot of members on the road and we’re hoping the pictures can help us and the public identify who this person is.”

He’s described as a white male, medium build, 5’8 and wearing glasses.

“He has a grey and brown goatee and was wearing a Crook & Castles hoodie underneath the leather jacket that he wore during the robbery,” O’Brien said.

If anyone has information, they’re asked to contact Crimestoppers or Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
