NANAIMO — More housing options are available for Nanaimo’s middle class, couples and small families.

Twenty-seven units of either one or two bedroom units are now available for rent at a recently opened affordable housing complex on Georgia Ave.

Monthly rent will range between $1,100 and $1,700.

The facility, run by the Nanaimo Affordable Housing Society, is designated for those with annual household incomes between $44,000 and $68,000.

Society CEO Andrea Blakeman said the project will offer more choice for a wide variety of Nanaimo families.

“This new project is a welcome addition to our housing stock for moderate-and-middle income singles, couples and small families,” she said. “This benefits the whole Island community.”

Roughly $9 million in provincial funding helped the Society buy the development and keep monthly rental rents affordable.

Under provincial guidelines, a project must offer rents at 80 per cent of the market value to be considered affordable.
