Shirley Mae MacDonald (nee Planz) April 27, 1938 – July 19, 2018
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother Shirley. Born on a small family farm in Neustadt, Ontario to Edwin and Sadie, Shirley left her 5 brothers and 4 sisters behind and headed west to BC in 1954.
While in Nanaimo working at the Free Press and boarding at Gorosh Home she met Don MacDonald. They were married in 1957 and had 3 children, Jack, Cindy and Brenda.
She was a member at the Nanaimo Women’s Curling Club. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren including umpiring at their slow pitch games.
With the passing of Don in 1981, Shirley met Howie Berg in 1984. They travelled nearly every highway in the United States in their Airstream Travel Trailer.
Most recently her second love to her family was checking her horoscope daily and heading to the local casino if it seemed fit to try her luck.
She leaves behind son Jack (Lori), daughters Cindy (Doug) and Brenda (Dave). Grandchildren Jaime, Torrie, Jake and Nevada. Great Grandchildren Jordyn and Emersyn. Shirley will be missed by all who knew her.
At Shirley’s request there will be no service, flowers or donations.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will take place on Sunday, August 12th at 3187 Mexicana Rd. at 4 pm.
