SEPTEMBER 8, 1934 ~ OCTOBER 19, 2018 (AGE 84)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of “Betty” on the morning of October 19, 2018 at the age of 84. She passed away peacefully at Ty Watson House. Mom is survived by her husband of 62 years, Allan; children, Bruce, Alanna, Rob (Kim) and Jennifer of Port Alberni; grandchildren, Devon, Amber (Ben), Huai-en and Houng- Yuin. Betty is also survived by her brother, Fred Thom of Tahsis, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Betty was born in Duncan; she attended boarding school in Nanaimo for several years, with her home being in Port Alberni. She later attended Sprott Shaw College in Vancouver where she honed her secretarial skills, but Betty spent the majority of her years residing in Port Alberni where she met and married “a logger” named Allan Cameron. They moved to the Beaufort area and built a house on his family farm, where they raised their 4 children.
Betty volunteered as a secretary for the Farmers Institute for 25 years; she was very proficient and proud of her secretarial skills which she applied to her long time career working for School District 70, until she retired at age 65. Her passion and organizational skills were also a catalyst in her fight and success to maintain a piece of history when the attempt was made to rename their road from “Comox Trail’ to Beaver Creek. Mom loved where she lived!
Elizabeth liked to be active and took many courses and workshops over the years. She was a talented musician and dancer with the voice of an angel, she also enjoyed graphology, genealogy, quilting, needlework, floor curling, walking and held a great love for nature and all animals.
Betty loved people and was very thoughtful and generous, with a selfless heart. She cared greatly for her family and could be a little spitfire for the right occasion.
We would like to thank Ty Watson House for taking care of Mom, along with the rest of us and a sincere thank you to Marge Emblem for just being you. There will be no service by request.
