AUGUST 6, 1921 ~ JANUARY 3, 2019 (AGE 97)
It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of Roy Jones at the age of 97. He is survived by his daughter Louise and his grandsons Dylan and Alex as well as his nephew Andrew Brown.
Roy was born in Manchester, England and immigrated to Canada in the mid fifties along with his wife Sylvia. He had a long career as a social worker for the provincial government here on Vancouver Island, and for several years in Cranbrook, BC. In his earlier years Roy was very involved in various community theatres and always enjoyed “hamming it up” on stage. He had an inquiring mind, was an avid reader and loved music and art. He was also very fond of animals, particularly his little dog Jody.
In his later years he joined the Qualicum Seniors’ Centre which soon became his second home. Roy was a kind and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend and he was an eternal optimist. Some of his last words were a direct quote from one of his favourite Louis Armstrong songs “what a wonderful world”. We would like to thank all his dear friends from the Qualicum Seniors’ Centre for your friendships that meant so much to him and the staff at Stanford Place who provided such wonderful care in his final days.
Our hearts are heavy but we celebrate the full life he was able to lead for 97 years. Poppa, we all aspire to live our lives as you did and you will always be with us.
A Celebration of Roy’s life will be held on Saturday, February 16th at 2:00 pm. at the Qualicum Seniors’ Centre.
