MARCH 21, 1951 ~ MARCH 8, 2019 (AGE 67)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Irene Anna Hanson (née Krueger). Irene was born in Germany and immigrated to Canada with her parents and brother in 1953. She grew up near Galt (now Cambridge) Ontario, but after marrying Victor Hanson, they moved to the West Coast where they settled on Lasqueti Island. The island was remote and sometimes difficult, but visitors, particularly those from Germany, were enchanted with the bucolic and peaceful existence with its tight-knit and caring community. Her parents on Vancouver Island sailed and friends and relatives were taken over on a captivating trip right into a beautiful cove on Lasqueti where they could walk up to the house. Irene’s life was unconventional. She was rugged, independent, and very determined. She loved animals and the household was never ever without cats and dogs. Her immense garden was her pride and joy and the source of fresh vegetables for a memorable meal. Irene always kept up with current events and was quick with an opinion on politics or world events. She was faithful to her friends and was the last of a now fading era of handwritten letter writers.
Irene was predeceased by her parents Egon and Dora in 2013. She leaves behind her husband Victor of 50 years, her daughter Jessica, her brother Guenther and extended family in the Prince George area, Ontario, and Germany. As per the family’s wishes there will be no service. Please remember Irene in your hearts and in your prayers.
