He was predeceased by parents, Fred & Letitia Campbell; brother, John Campbell; and sister, Lydia Holliday
Born in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan in 1957, 3rd child of Fred & “Tishie” who soon added 3 more daughters to their family. The family moved to Vancouver in 1969 and never looked back – especially Sonny. He loved the ocean, mountains, lakes and wildlife that the coast had to offer. In 1973, the family moved to Squamish where Sonny attended Howe Sound Secondary School. He was married to Mary LeBlanc and adopted her two daughters, Tina and Melissa and they later added their son, Shaun to the family.
Sonny was an Industrial First Aid Attendant at Weldwood and Woodfibre. He also followed his dad and brother as an Insulator/Pipefitter and eventually asbestos and hazardous material removal.
Sonny moved to Parksville to be closer to his sisters in 2006 after his father, mother, and brother passed away. He loved Vancouver Island, being close to his sisters, nephews, nieces and their many family pets. Sonny was an animal lover and enjoyed feeding the birds that visited his feeders every day. He spent many hours at French Creek Marina and Parksville beach enjoying the wildlife with his good friend David Read.
An easygoing compassionate guy, Sonny was always willing to help those less fortunate. He was a friend to the friendless and kind to all he met. He will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In keeping with Sonny’s wishes no formal services will be held. His family will have a private Celebration of Life at a later date. The family welcome the sharing of memories, stories, and photos of Sonny on his Tribute Wall. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Sonny’s memory may do so my making a donation in his name to either the Manna Homeless Society www.mannahs.com, PO Box 389 Errington, BC V0R 1V0 or the Parksville Salvation Army Food Bank parksvillesalvationarmy.ca/donate/, PO Box 1874 Parksville, BC V9P 2H6.
