DAVID, Douglas Gordon

NOVEMBER 5, 1943 ~ APRIL 22, 2019 (AGE 75)
Douglas passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s & Dementia.
Douglas was born in Port Alberni, BC to late Hyacinth Peter David (Tla-o-qui-aht) and late Winnifred David {nee George/Hamilton} (Hupacasath). His parental lineages are throughout most Nuu-chah-nulth communities of Hupacasath, Tla-o-qui-aht, Ditidaht, Kyuquot, Tseshaht, and Ucluelet First Nations.
He is pre-deceased by brothers Reginald, Irvin, twins Ronald and Richard, Edward “Teddy” and George, sisters Linda Miller, Lorraine McCarthy, Stella, Patricia, and Theresa as well as his eldest child Kathryn who passed in infancy.
He is survived by his wife Janice of Debary Florida, Son Joseph of Snohomish Washington, Daughter Katrina (Rene) Ekman of Forney Texas. He was a loving Papa to Grandchildren Lilyahna David, Kelson Lacey, Katlin Brooks, and great granddaughter Skylynn Brooks.
He is also survived by brothers Benedict (Grace) of Port Alberni and Hyacinth Joseph David of Tofino and many nieces, nephews and their children to whom he was also Grampa.
Doug was one of 14 children. Raised in Opitsit and attended Christie Residential School (1950-57) on Meares Island as well as the Day School (1957-58) before moving to Yuma Arizona with his parents and siblings at age 15.
His family eventually settled in Seattle where he met Janice (McGregor) and married in 1964. He remained living in the United States through his life.
He recently moved from Washington to Texas to live with his daughter and family where he would eventually live the last two years in a memory care facility “Brookdale at White Rock”. He was adored by the caring staff.
Douglas served over 24 years in the US Navy in law enforcement working his way around the world often with his family in tow. He was a Vietnam Veteran and a decorated sailor. His family is proud of his service.
He was a lifelong devoted Seahawks fan and to his delight the Seahawks won Super Bowl XLVIII.
He was well loved by many. We will forever remember his quick wit and keen mind.
Service in Port Alberni date to be determined. Cremation will take place.
