Police track down romance scammer in BC’s west Kootenay region

NANAIMO — A man convicted of defrauding several women out of thousands of dollars has been arrested and faces new charges.

NanaimoNewsNOW learned Jordan David Shepherd, 36, was arrested earlier this month by the RCMP in Trail, B.C. following an arrest warrant issued against him in September.

Shepherd was released on bail on Nov. 17, while his next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 27 in Victoria, according to court records.

Police had been looking for the former Nanaimo resident for breaching the terms of his probation in the Victoria area between Aug. 14 and Sept. 12.

Shepherd was charged with resisting or obstructing a peace officer and possessing a controlled substance in Victoria on April 11.

He was also convicted for multiple driving offences and probation breaches following his jail sentence.

Shepherd was sentenced in May, 2018 in Nanaimo to four-and-a-half months in jail and two years probation after he pleaded guilty to seven fraud charges for offences committed in 2017.

Shepherd’s high-profile scam involved talking victims into advancing him a total of $14,700 from often vulnerable women he primarily met through online dating sites. Shepherd then asked his victims to cash cheques from a non-existent company called On the Rocks Surveying.

After agreeing to give Shepherd money the women would not be paid back after repeated attempts.

He was ordered by a judge to repay his victims.
