NANAIMO – The Clippers beat Victoria 5-3 to extend their current winning streak to three games.

Tyler Williams led Nanaimo’s offense with a pair of goals in the second period.

Despite outshooting the Grizzlies 15-6 in the first period the game was scoreless going into the second frame.

Liam Ryan opened the scoring with a penalty shot goal before Williams got his two tallies back to back.

Mackenzie Merriman also had a penalty shot in the second period but was turned away by former Clipper goalie Blake Wood.

A late second period goal by Victoria’s Cody Monds moved the scoreline to 3-1 Nanaimo before the intermission break.

Travis Walton extended the lead to 4-1 early in the third but the Grizzlies clawed back with a pair of quick goals by Connor Eddy (PP) and Henri Schreifels to put the result in doubt.

But Josh Bourne, who had a very strong last two minutes, sealed the game with an empty net goal.

Jordan Naylor made 26 saves to earn his ninth win of the year.

Nanaimo’s record is now 14-6-1-1, good for sole possession of first place in the Island Division.

The Clippers now have a 2-0-1 record versus Victoria as they get set to travel to the Q Centre Nov. 9 for a return engagement against their south island rivals.

Nanaimo and Victoria will play six more times before the BCHL Christmas break to conclude their season series.
