Clippers on wrong side of 5-2 score

NANAIMO – The Clippers dropped a 5-2 game to Coquitlam in a battle of two BCHL heavyweights.

The Express went up 1-0 early on a goal right off a faceoff by Adam Trotman, before Steven Agriogianis evened the score off an offensive zone draw for Nanaimo.

Ethan O’Rourke’s deflection goal in the dying seconds of the first period gave Coquitlam the lead back heading into the intermission.

In the second period the teams traded goals with Kyler Kovich tying the game for the Clippers and Greg Lapointe earning a deflection goal that ended up being the game winner.

A power play goal by Tyler Schleppe and a shorthanded empty netter by Trotman wrapped up the scoring in the contest in the third.

The Express outshot the Clippers 32-18 on the night with goalie Jack Watson getting the win and Zach Bennett taking the loss.

Nanaimo ends October with an 8-3-1 record for he month and an overall standing of 11-6-1-1.

They will start November in a tie for first place in the Island Division with six straight games to come against divisional opponents.

That streak begins on Nov. 1 with a home game against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
