Nanaimo RCMP investigate attack at Diver Lake Park

NANAIMO — Two male suspects are wanted after a man and woman were the victims of an unprovoked assault in the Diver Lake Park area.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said the incident happened Saturday, Sept. 28 at about 1 p.m. when the female victim said she and her male friend had been in their tent when two unidentified males showed up carrying bats and assaulted them.

“Both required hospitalization, their injuries were consistent with being hit by a large blunt object, they both provided and have since been released from hospital.”

O’Brien said the assault lasted several minutes.

The suspects were seen driving off in an unknown direction in a newer model orange car.

O’Brien said police are not aware of any witnesses to the disturbing attack.

“The female was of no fixed address she was residing in a tent, the male was visiting her at which point the assault took place,” O’Brien said. “As to why it happened we’re not too sure.”

Suspect # 1:
-caucasian, 25-35 years of age
-dark clothing
-dark hair with a goatee
-heavy set

Suspect # 2:
-caucasian, 25-35 years of age
-black bandana covering the lower half of his face
-dark beard
-heavy set
