UPDATE: violent offender arrested in Nanaimo after Canada-wide arrest warrant issued

UPDATE: Nanaimo RCMP arrested a violent offender who they say breached his parole conditions by leaving a Victoria halfway house.

Jesse Wayne Goodale, 29, was arrested Wednesday, July 24 at around noon at a south Nanaimo business.

Goodale was held overnight, pending a court appearance Thursday in Nanaimo.

Jesse Wayne Goodale, 29, is accused of walking away from a residential facility in Victoria on Monday, July 22, according to Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien.

The Correctional Service of Canada then issued a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.

“He should be considered violent,” O’Brien said. “He was serving a five-year sentence for aggravated assault. He has an extensive criminal record.”

The aggravated assault conviction stemmed from a July 1, 2015 machete attack which seriously injured a man in Nanaimo’s Harewood neighbourhood.

Goodale has several other convictions dating back to 2009 for violent offences and property crimes.

This is the second Canada-wide warrant ever issued for Goodale. The first was for violating his parole in 2014.

“There’s a strong belief that he was returned to Nanaimo,” O’Brien said, who noted Goodale has family and friends in Nanaimo.

Goodale is Indigenous, standing 5-foot-11, weighing 220 lbs, with short dark hair and brown eyes. Goodale has several tattoos including “weed” on his left hand.

O’Brien said anyone who sees Goodale is urged not to approach them and instead call the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
