Apr 21, 2018 | 12:29 PM

NANAIMO — A person is dead after a crash between a car and a fuel tanker truck north of Lantzville.

Nanoose Volunteer Fire Department confirmed a fatality in the crash which happened around 3:30 p.m. Friday on Hwy. 19 at Hillview Rd.

It’s unclear if there were any other injuries in the crash.

The highway was reduced to single lane traffic and then closed for long periods of time until all lanes were cleared and re-opened just before 8 p.m.

Traffic was lined up more than 10 kilometres in both directions.

“Most people did exercise patience, however there are a few that did not. People need to understand that when RCMP are doing an investigation, it is extremely important that they get it right. There is no second chance once the evidence is cleaned up,” Nanoose Fire said in a statement to NanaimoNewsNOW.

The RCMP’s Central Island Traffic Services declined comment when contacted Saturday morning.
