It’s BC’s Family Fishing Weekend, which means free fishing and a big event in Nanaimo Sunday.

Tristan Robbins, with the Vancouver Island Trout Hatchery hopes people will take the opportunity to try their hand at fishing.

“You actually don’t need a fishing license this weekend.  Residents of Canada can go fishing in most of BC’s lakes and non-tidal streams for free.  You don’t need to buy or carry a license with you.  But if you do want to purchase one you can definitely go to the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC Website, gofishbc.com, or you can visit your local tackle shop,” said Robbins.

City of Nanaimo Recreation Co-ordinator Deb Beck says Sunday’s Family Fishing Day is at Colliery Dam Park from 10am-2pm.
