OTTAWA — 4,000: Number of guests who RSVP’d to the invitation to this year’s July 4 party at the official residence of the U.S. ambassador to Canada.

1908: the year Lornado, the residence, was built.

1935: year the U.S. government purchased it to serve as the official residence.

32: rooms in the property.

100-plus: the number of volunteers from the U.S. embassy and elsewhere who help make the party happen.

Five: the number of first responders on site. They are the Ottawa Police and Fire Services, RCMP, Ottawa Paramedic Services, and St. John Ambulance Medical First Responders.

Two: number of ambassadors to Canada appointed by U.S. President Barack Obama.

240: years since the Declaration of Independence, signed by 13 American colonies declaring themselves a new country.

263,475: Number of people who listed the U.S. as their place of birth in the 2011 National Household Survey. 

7.2: per cent of Canadian citizens who also hold American citizenship.
