NANAIMO — As many as 5000 people could show up at Beban Park Saturday for TeenFest.

It’s an afternoon geared towards teens and their families so they can explore different aspects of health, hobbies and careers.

Organizer Ali Berman says this is the third TeenFest in Nanaimo, and it was actually inspired by her own children.

“We decided to put on this big teen trade show event so the youth can actually meet people in their community.  They can meet the business leaders, they can reach out and connect with people who can help them, who can help guide them, who can teach them, and hopefully make a difference in their lives,” said Berman.

There are 45 exhibitors this year, and Berman says teen can expect a wide range of activities and performances.

“We are going to be having a jousting arena, a mechanical bull, we have a teen talent competition going on, and Sirreal is coming out to perform.  We are going to have 45 exhibitors who are going to be so interactive and engaging it’s going to be incredible.  It’s fun for the entire family and we’d love everyone to come out and see us.”

Berman says the Nanaimo School Board has helped to handout tickets to all students in grades six through twelve.

TeenFest runs from 11am to 4:30pm at Beban Park and even though the admission is free the tickets will be used for entry into a contest to win a $250 VISA gift card.
