Clippers erase two goal deficit to beat Powell River 5-3

NANAIMO – The Clippers stormed back to get their first win over the Powell River Kings this season with a 5-3 victory on Sunday.

The game started with a bang thanks to a hit by Marcus Mitchell on Neal Samanski.

Samanski was unable to come back and play another shift.

Later in the first Josh Bourne was tossed from the game after a check on Ben Wozney.

Wozney also didn’t come back.

On that power play Levi Glasman put a rebound behind Jordan Naylor to give the Kings the lead.

Gunnar Wegleitner got the Clippers back to even after he wired a shot by Mitch Adamyk in the final minute of the first.

Nanaimo had a strong start to the second period but the Kings cashed in with Glasman getting another power play rebound goal.

AP Nic Porchetta also nabbed a second chance opportunity that gave Powell River a stranglehold on the game.

That all changed when Gunnar Wegleitner got his second goal of the game in early in the third period.

From that point on the Clippers were dominant with Ethan Scardina and Tyler Williams rifling shots behind Adamyk.

Scardina finished off a great feed from Sammy Steele to lock down the game for Nanaimo.

The final shots were 34-32 for the Clippers and both teams had five chances on the man advantage.

Sunday’s Three Stars were Ethan Scardina (2g 1a), Gunnar Wegleitner (2g), and Levi Glasman (2g).

Next up for Nanaimo is a home date with the Cowichan Valley Capitals on Friday.
