Driver, residents uninjured as car smashes through back fence of Nanaimo home

NANAIMO — Police say the driver of a white Acura is extremely lucky not to have been injured after a late-evening crash in the city’s south end.

Calls to 911 were made just after 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 7, after the car lost control travelling along Bruce Ave., crashed through the fence of a nearby home on Silver Mountain Dr., and came to rest between two properties.

Nanaimo RCMP Reserve Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW the driver was allegedly not paying complete attention to the road at the time of the incident.

“Driver was not injured, and he actually walked away of his own volition. Drugs were not suspected, it looks like he just lost control, he wasn’t paying attention, and this is going to be an insurance issue.”

No one in the affected homes was injured.

Nanaimo Fire Rescue and paramedics from BC Emergency Health Services attended the call.

A tow truck attempted to remove the vehicle Wednesday night but was unable to and returned Thursday to continue work.

O’Brien said it’s fortunate the situation didn’t result in anything worse.

“It really helps to pay attention, bad things can happen when you lose control of a vehicle. In this particular case, this person is very lucky not to have been injured.”

He added speed may have been a factor in the crash, however an analyst was not called to the scene to verify.
