Water supply, taxes dominate Parksville election forum
PARKSVILLE — A pleasant early fall afternoon didn’t discourage a large crowd from filling Parksville’s Jensen Centre for a well attended forum.
Hosted by Parksville and District Chamber of Commerce, a standing room only crowd of about 300 people showed up for the Saturday, Sept. 26, event where candidates attempted to impress voters ahead of the looming general local election.
The forum was broken into two segments, with the three mayoral contenders answering a combination of pre-selected and audience contributed questions in the first half of the two-hour event, followed by all 10 council hopefuls placed on stage.
During her opening address, Mary Biel, a two-term Parksvillle city councillor who’s gunning for the mayor’s chair, expanded on work taking place to examine its water supply woes.
