Nuber can be heard telling the victim to “hold on” before the vehicle stops and the man climbs inside when they are far enough away from the attacker.

He said the victim suffered multiple injuries, including a bloody mouth, gouged right eye and cuts on an arm.

Surrey police said a 37-year-old man was facing multiple charges, including assault with a weapon, criminal harassment and uttering threats and he remained in custody.

He was due in Surrey Provincial Court on Thursday to set a next appearance date.

“The victim attempted to drive away in his Ford pickup truck when the suspect drove his Jeep Wrangler into it,” Surrey police said in a statement on Thursday.

“The victim then ran from the truck as the suspect allegedly brandished a knife and chased after him. Fortunately, a nearby witness driving a Telsa provided the victim safety until SPS officers arrived.

The statement said several police officers were called to the scene at about 4:44 p.m. and took the suspect into custody without incident.

Nuber said he had turned up at a parking lot when he saw a pickup truck and a Jeep had collided, with both cars’ airbags deployed.

“I thought that it might be a road rage incident. So, I slowed my car down, and then I took my phone out and started to film what started to happen,” said Nuber.

Then he heard someone yelling “he’s got a knife.’

The chase ensued after a man with no shoes ran toward him, shouting for help.

“The guy basically ended up hanging onto my car and then being kind of dangled underneath the door for about 100 feet. I think I dragged him just to get him away from the guy,” Nuber said.

“And then eventually he kind of begged me to stop the car so he could get inside because he was obviously getting road rash.”

Nuber said the suspect gave up the chase, walked to the woods and threw the knife into the forest, before police arrived minutes later.

He said the incident was a test of his survival instincts.

“I think if you ever face a situation, you might be impressed with yourself, with what your instincts do,” said Nuber.
