RICHMOND — British Columbia legislator Hon Chan has pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and uttering threats in a case of alleged intimate partner violence.

The BC Prosecution Service says counsel for the Richmond Centre MLA entered the not-guilty plea last Thursday, choosing a jury trial.

The service says Chan has also waived his right to a preliminary inquiry, meaning the matter will move directly to BC Supreme Court.

Chan is next set to appear in court in Vancouver on Sept. 16.
