NANAIMO — With funding not renewed beyond this year, local governments are advocating to maintain a versatile climate action program.
Since 2022, the Local Government Climate Action Program (LGCAP) has provided over $1.6 million to the City of Nanaimo to support numerous energy efficiency initiatives, including capital projects.
Ting Pan, the City’s sustainability manager, told a Monday, July 27, council meeting the program’s flexibility is favoured by local governments.
“It doesn’t restrict your spending, whether it’s on capital or for operational expenses, and you can also use it to leverage other external funding, and the local governments are free to spend it as they see fit.”
