Supportive Housing concerns addressed

Local opposition to a supportive housing project in Port Alberni has been quelled after Monday’s city council meeting.

Representatives from BC Housing and Lookout Society CEO Shayne Williams addressed lingering questions about the neighbourhood effects of the project.

“Certainly, we have a good neighbours agreement that we have each one of our tenants sign, so here’s the expectation of being a good neighbour within the 2nd Street site,” he said. “If you want to live here, this is what we think is important to realize and make sure that we have a cleanup team that can address any kind of ongoing concerns in our general neighbourhood. We would like to make the neighbourhood better.”

Rosanne Doiron headed up a group of uptown businesses and residents and said she’s cautiously optimistic.
