Significant service enhancements on weekends are in place on the Duke Point – Tsawwassen route where 10 daily round trips are now on the schedule, up from the previous six Saturday and eight Sunday round trips.

The existing 10 daily weekday round trips on the Duke Point – Tsawwassen run from the spring schedule remains in tact throughout the summer.

In addition, a bonus singular daily one-way sailing from Tsawwassen to Departure Bay debuted on Wednesday, June 10, with the two-hour sailing remaining in place throughout the peak summer season to help alleviate congestion.

No adjustments have been made to the Nanaimo Harbour – Gabriola Island schedule.

With current traffic numbers continually increasing year after year, BC Ferries expects it will surpass last summer’s 10.3 million passengers and 4.1 million vehicles it transported.

Extra traffic is expected to be associated with the pending FIFA World Cup 2026, which has seven games at Vancouver’s BC Place Stadium between June 13 and July 7, including a pair of knockout stage contests.

During a news conference last month in advance of the peak season, the BC Ferries reported 630 seasonal staff was in the process of being hired, which the company hoped would reduce crew-related cancellations.

BC Ferries pointed to an increasing trend of extra traffic converging at peak times at its major terminals.

The company stated it completed regular maintenance on all 37 of its vessels, including refits on 22 of its ferries in advance of the summer season.

The company noted its full fleet is in service during the peak summer season, limiting flexibility to respond to unexpected disruptions or sudden spikes in demand.
