NANAIMO — Mounties have one person in custody following a stabbing at local motel.

The situation unfolded around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4 inside a ground-level room at Bluebird Motel in the 900 block of Terminal Ave., involving a man being attacked by someone known to them.

Nanaimo RCMP Res. Cst. Gary O’Brien said the victim received a single stab wound, but is expected to fully recover.

“Officers quickly located and arrested a suspect near the scene, and a knife believed to have been used in the incident was recovered,” O’Brien noted in a release. “Investigators have spoken with several witnesses as they work to determine the full sequence of events.”

Police maintained a presence at the motel for several hours, conducting an investigation.

Mounties believe the people involved were well known to each other and there is no widespread risk to the general public.

O’Brien noted the Forensic Identification Section of the detachment is aiding investigating officers with their efforts.

Anyone who has information regarding the incident, who haven’t already spoken with police, is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 1-250-754-2345.
