Clippers dialed in on the road in Powell River

POWELL RIVER — The Clippers have now gone five games without a regulation loss after a 5-1 victory over the Kings.

Tanner Bruender stole the show with three points, including two spectacular goals.

Nanaimo had a strong first period thanks to goals by Hayden Fechner and Charles Beland.

Kings captain Jake Westhaver scored early in the middle frame to close the gap before Bruender’s two markers.

His first goal was a blazing shot from the wing and his second was a shorthanded breakaway net drive.

In the third period Bruender was the architect of slap shot power play tally off the stick of Landon Pappas.

The Clippers outshot the Kings 39-30 on the night as Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau collected his 16th win of the season.

Nanaimo ended up 1/4 on the man advantage and 3/3 killing penalties.

On Feb. 10 the BCHL’s annual trade deadline will come and go.

Coach Colin Birkas said the club has the ability to add a player or two without deleting anyone from the current roster.

The Clippers have three games in four days over Family Day weekend.

Nanaimo will host Surrey on Friday the 13th, be home to the Kings on Valentine’s Day and visit Vernon for a matinee on the Family Day Holiday.
