Doctor recruitment & retention critical

Heathcare top priority for Osborne

Mid-Island Pacific Rim MLA Josie Osborne is almost half-way through her latest term, and has a series of priorities for the next 2 years.

While housing, child care, and transportation issues are a major focus, her role as Health Minister gives her special insight into the shortage of doctors and nurses here, and around the province.

“Really strongly focussed on healthcare, the recruitment and retention of doctors and nurses that we need here in the Alberni Valley,” she said. “Especially with the recent impacts at the West Coast General Hospital and knowing that we have family physicians who will be retiring in the next years, it’s one of the highest priorities about bringing more healthcare workers here to the valley.”

Osborne spoke with a group of NDP supporters on the weekend who were gathered for the local constituency association’s AGM.
