Push for cath lab & patient tower at Nanaimo hospital including lobby groups, federal government meetings
NANAIMO — Patience continues to wear thin as patients continue to wait in hallways at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
Calls are increasing for immediate action on a new catheterization lab for cardiac care, as well as progress on a patient tower replacement at NRGH, a facility which continues to be woefully inadequate for those working on site, and those needing urgent and specialized care.
Donna Hais, chair of Fair Care Alliance, who has led many public efforts to rally support, said they’re taking their pleas straight to Ottawa next week, meeting with several government departments and organizations to further their cause for all Island residents.
“Don’t tell me this conversation isn’t also about the people living in Victoria, because they’re on wait lists because our patients are taking their spaces. We’re there to have a conversation for what we believe are the voices of a million people who live on this island, 20 per cent of the population of this province, and we’re taking it to the next level.”
