NANAIMO — Local Mounties are looking further into the death of a 62-year-old man last month.

The Nanaimo RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit is leading an investigation into the December assault, and subsequent death, of Allan Dudeck in an alley off Fifth St. between Georgia Ave. and Shepherd Ave. in Harewood on Dec. 1.

Dudeck died a few days after the assault in hospital in Victoria.

Cst. Sherri Wade told NanaimoNewsNOW she was unable to comment on the investigation at this time, only noting police consider it a “suspicious death”.

Mounties said at the time Police Dog Services and forensic investigators attended the scene, but have not elaborated on any evidence collected.

While Dudeck was found around 9 p.m. on the night in question, police believe the actual assault may have occurred much earlier.

An obituary posted in Dudeck’s honour hailed him as a well-travelled man and former business owner.

“The last few years, Allan had struggles but still had a friendly smile and a kind word for everyone he passed,” it reads.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 1-250-754-2345, quoting file number 2025-37942.
