ADSS Turf Field needs replacement

Port Alberni is about to lose its only all-weather turf field.

According to Pacific Rim School District Assistant Superintendent James Messenger, the field is starting to become a safety issue.

“The field is beyond its intended lifespan and continues to deteriorate, which means we are needed to closely monitor the condition to make sure it’s passing safety testing,” he said.

Messenger told the School Board this week that it will cost a million dollars to replace the turf field and they have reached out to community groups that use the field to help with the replacement costs.

The School Board agreed to close the ADSS Turf Field as of December 31st of next year unless the million dollars is raised by ADSS and community groups, and replace it with a $300,000 grass field for school use only.
