$10M+ revamp approved for Nanaimo’s Loudon Park
NANAIMO — For the second time this year, a firm direction forward has been given to a long-awaited update to the shores of Long Lake.
Nanaimo City Council, as part of a special finance and audit committee meeting on Friday, Nov. 28, gave near-unanimous approval to a community gathering space, boat storage room and public washroom facility at Loudon Park, currently projected to cost $10.2 million.
Coun. Ian Thorpe said the option, one of five considered by Council, is one which works not only for local user groups but also the wider community.
“This is just a very, very long overdue improvement to a very popular community facility at Long Lake. It’s a community gathering place, and it needs to be improved and spruced up and the rowing and paddling clubs that are operating out of that facility I think deserve our support as well. This accomplishes all of that.”
