NANAIMO — Local Mounties are looking for a suspect who robbed a north Nanaimo convenience store early Saturday morning.

At around 6 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, Nanaimo RCMP say a masked man wearing dark clothes and holding a bladed weapon entered the Blueback Rd. 7-Eleven, hopped the counter and rummaged through the cash drawer, then ran off east on nearby Groveland Dr.

Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Sherri Wade said the suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, likely a small amount due to the time of day.

“Then ran out of the store and heading right on Groveland Dr. Thankfully, no one was injured in the store. They did call Police Dog Services, but they were unable to track the subject.”

She said police are looking for anyone living in the 6300 block of Groveland Dr. and the 6200 block of Blueblack Rd. to check any video footage they may have for a dark male running from the area between 5:50 a.m. and 6:20 a.m.

The suspect is described as male, around 5’10”, wearing a blue shirt and black pants while holding a grey bag.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
