Clippers grab impressive road win against Coastal East leading Express

NANAIMO — The Clippers broke a two game losing streak with an excellent road effort in Coquitlam.

For just the fourth time in 20 games Nanaimo surrendered the first goal but took the game over in the second period and locked things down in third.

After Carson McGinley gave the Express the lead via the BCHL’s top power play, Owen Davies tied the game with his first goal as a Clipper.

Sam Boisvert on a deflection and Jack Rimmer on a five on three tip in gave Nanaimo a 3-2 lead through 40 minutes.

Clippers leading scorer Hayden Fechner assisted all three goals but his linemate Boisvert was lost to injury after being checked into the boards early in the second period.

Cole Bishop scored on a third period Coquitlam man advantage but Nanaimo defended well in the third despite being outshot 19-4 and 36-24 overall.

The Clippers went 1/3 on the power play and 3/5 killing penalties.

Eliot Sequin-Lescarbeau was very sharp in net and named the game’s second star.

Nanaimo went up against their former captain Carson Lesiuk, who is now a member of the Express but Lesiuk didn’t factor in the scoring.

The Clippers now move on to face the Surrey Eagles on Nov. 22.

They will see ex teammate Matson Waring suiting up for the Eagles after he was dealt to Surrey recently for the playing rights of Dru Mushumanski.
