Police investigation disrupts Hwy 19A traffic in Nanaimo

Nov 12, 2025 | 3:18 PM

NANAIMO — A vital vehicular link through Nanaimo is stalled to allow police to conduct a traffic-related investigation.

Nanaimo RCMP Res. Cst. Gary O’Brien said one southbound lane of Highway 19A (Old Island Hwy) is closed between Turner and Mostar roads for vehicular and pedestrians.

He told NanaimoNewsNOW a full temporary highway closure southbound between Turner and Mostar roads could be required.

He said members of the RCMP’s Integrated Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) are probing an undisclosed investigation.

The lane closure heading south is creating spillover congestion on adjacent Uplands Dr. And Metral Dr.

No further information from police is available on how long disrupted traffic flow will be in effect, nor is it known what the nature of the police investigation is.
